INFORMATION FOR BAPTISMAL PREPARATION PROGRAM

The Baptismal Preparation Program consists of a two-portion program.

First portion online and the second portion one night of instruction, generally commencing on a Thursday evening (Spanish classes are on Tuesday’s)

from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the Parish Center

10445 So. Downey Ave., Downey, CA.

The evening class addresses the Rite of Baptism. 

Completion of the Program is necessary before a Baptism may be scheduled. Mother and father of the child must attend pre-baptismal class as well as the godparents, one male one female, practicing Catholics.  Upon completion of the required class, please call Rectory office to schedule the Baptism.

 The program will be of particular interest to those couples five months or more expectant, but all couples are welcome.

 Godparents (Catholic only) are required to attend the pre-baptismal class.  Baptism cannot be scheduled until they have attended.  If it is more convenient for godparents to attend elsewhere it is acceptable, but verification of classes will be required.  If two godparents are not possible, one godparent, preferably the same gender as the child is acceptable.  Godparents must be practicing Catholics, one male and one female only.

 Because this program is designed to help parents prepare for their child’s baptism, we ask parents to make baby-sitting arrangements for their children. Please do not bring your children to class.

Requirements to register:

 One parent of the Child that will be baptized is only allowed to register (parent must bring valid ID).

 The fee is One hundred Dollars ($100), payable with the application.  This fee covers Church and program expenses and is non-refundable.  For those attending the “class only” because the Baptism will be held at another Church, the fee is Fifty Dollars ($50). 

(If baptizing two siblings at the same time the fee is $150.00) non-refundable.

A copy of the Birth Certificate of the child is required for our records.

General Information: 

 Baptisms are scheduled once a month on a Saturday in the Church (generally the second Saturday of the month).  Only 16 children are baptized at each Baptism.

 English Baptisms held at 10:00 a.m.

Spanish Baptisms held at 12:00 p.m.

The above schedule may vary from time to time due to other events.

 If the child’s parents are not registered in this parish and reside outside of our parish boundaries, they must bring a letter from their own parish, giving permission to baptize the child here.
